Who Needs Pat Certificates

The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 states the duty of care upon both the employer and the employee to ensure the safety of all persons using the work premises.

In normal speak this means anyone who employs another and provides electrical equipment for them to use means the equipment must be Pat Tested and checked each year. This includes the kettle!

Landlords. Any landlord offering a property to rent that includes electrical equipment also has a duty of care to ensure the appliances provided are safe. Failiure to do so could also invalidate insurance policies.
